However, Guarnaschelli's cooking experience began earlier while watching her mother experiment with various recipes at home while editing cookbooks. She interned under Larry Forgione and then at various restaurants in New York France and Los Angeles including Guy Savoy's La Butte Chaillot. Guarnaschelli was eventually the chef in charge at Butter. Guarnaschelli competed in 2007 Farmers Market Battle, a segment of Food Network's Iron Chef America, where she was up against Cat Cora. In the following years, she has appeared as an Iron Chef America judge as well as in the 2011 season of The Next Iron Chef season four in which she came in as the third runner-up. She was eliminated from the Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast. Her position was upgraded to sous chef for Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian following the 4th season of The Next Iron Chef.
